N.R.S. 293C.302 – Court-ordered extension of deadline for voting
Overview of Statute
This section provides procedures for the city clerk, should a court order an extension to the deadline for voting.
Statute
1. If a court of competent jurisdiction orders a city to extend the deadline for voting beyond the statutory period in an election, the city clerk shall, as soon as practicable after receiving notice of the decision of the court:
(a) Cause notice of the extended period to be published in a newspaper of general circulation in the city or if no newspaper is of general circulation in that city, in a newspaper of general circulation in the nearest city; and
(b) Transmit a notice of the extended deadline to each registered voter who requested an absent voter’s ballot for the election and has not returned the ballot before the date on which the notice will be transmitted.
2. The notice required pursuant to paragraph (a) of subsection 1 must be published:
(a) In a city whose population is 25,000 or more, on at least 3 successive days.
(b) In a city whose population is less than 25,000, at least twice in successive issues of the newspaper.

A registered voter who has received or who has voted an absent ballot.

3. Definition for Clerk
The election board officer designated or assigned to make the record of the election in the roster, tally list and challenge list in the precinct, district or polling place in which such officer is appointed.

4. Definition for Ballot
The record of a voter’s preference of candidates and questions voted upon at an election. The term includes, without limitation, any paper given to a voter upon which the voter places his or her vote and any electronic storage tapes.
