N.R.S. 293C.187 – Contents and publication of notice of primary or general city election

Overview of Statute

This section requires the city clerk to provide public notice of an election and provides the information to be included in that notice.

Statute

Not later than 30 days before the primary city election and the general city election, the city clerk shall cause to be published a notice of the election in a newspaper of general circulation in the city once a week for 2 successive weeks. If a newspaper of general circulation is not published in the city, the publication may be made in a newspaper of general circulation published within the county in which the city is located. If a newspaper of general circulation is not published in that county, the publication may be made in a newspaper of general circulation published in the nearest Nevada county. The notice must contain:

1. The date of the election.

2. The location of the polling places.

3. The hours during which the polling places will be open for voting.

Definition [General city election]

An election held pursuant to NRS 293C.115293C.140 or 293C.145. The term includes a general municipal election held pursuant to the provisions of a special charter of an incorporated city.

Definition [Clerk]

The election board officer designated or assigned to make the record of the election in the roster, tally list and challenge list in the precinct, district or polling place in which such officer is appointed.
