N.R.S. 293.5237 - Preregistration and registration of person at home by field registrar

Overview of Statute

This section provides for the registration of a person at home by a field registrar.

Statute

Any time:

1.  A person who, because of illness, disability or for other good cause shown, requires assistance to complete an application to preregister to vote may request the county clerk in writing or by telephone to preregister the person at the person’s residence. Upon request, the county clerk shall direct the appropriate field registrar to go to the home of such a person to preregister the person to vote.

2.  Before the last day to register to vote by mail pursuant to NRS 293.560 or 293C.527, as applicable, a person who because of illness, disability or for other good cause shown requires assistance to complete an application to register to vote may request the county clerk in writing or by telephone to register the person at the person’s residence. Upon request, the county clerk shall direct the appropriate field registrar to go to the home of such a person to register the person to vote.

Definition [County clerk]

Except as the term is used in NRS 293.393, whenever the term “county clerk” is used in this title it means “registrar of voters” in those counties where such office has been created pursuant to the provisions of NRS 244.164.

The election board officer designated or assigned to make the record of the election in the roster, tally list and challenge list in the precinct, district or polling place in which such officer is appointed.

Definition [Person]

1.  A natural person;

2.  Any form of business or social organization;

3.  Any nongovernmental legal entity, including, without limitation, a corporation, partnership, association, trust, unincorporated organization, labor union, committee for political action, political party and committee sponsored by a political party; or

4.  A government, governmental agency or political subdivision of a government.
