N.R.S. 293.506 - County clerk authorized to establish system for preregistration and registration by computer; requirements

Overview of Statute

This section authorizes the county clerk to establish a system for registration of voters by computer.

Statute

1. A county clerk may, with approval of the board of county commissioners, establish a system for using a computer to register voters and to keep records of registration.

2. A system established pursuant to subsection 1 must:

(a) Comply with any procedures and requirements prescribed by the Secretary of State pursuant to NRS 293.250; and

(b) Allow a person to preregister to vote and the county clerk to keep records of preregistration by computer.

3. Except as otherwise provided in NRS 293.5772 to 293.5887, inclusive, regardless of whether a county clerk establishes a system pursuant to subsection 1, the county clerk shall accept applications to preregister and register to vote submitted by computer to the Secretary of State through the system established by the Secretary of State pursuant to NRS 293.671.

Except as the term is used in NRS 293.393, whenever the term “county clerk” is used in this title it means “registrar of voters” in those counties where such office has been created pursuant to the provisions of NRS 244.164.

The election board officer designated or assigned to make the record of the election in the roster, tally list and challenge list in the precinct, district or polling place in which such officer is appointed.

As used in NRS 295.075 to 295.125, inclusive, unless the context otherwise requires, “board” means the board of county commissioners.

Definition [Person]

1.  A natural person;

2.  Any form of business or social organization;

3.  Any nongovernmental legal entity, including, without limitation, a corporation, partnership, association, trust, unincorporated organization, labor union, committee for political action, political party and committee sponsored by a political party; or

4.  A government, governmental agency or political subdivision of a government.
