This section defines “political party.”

Statute

“Political party” means any minor or major political party.

Any organization which qualifies as such pursuant to NRS 293.128.

Attorney General's Opinions

  • AGO 66 (1917) An old political party already officially recognized in this state, on the change of its name, could get its candidates on the ballot by petition only. Such change of name could be made by the state committee, the state convention or by a petition filed with the secretary of state.

  • AGO 66 (1917) A new political party cannot use the name of any party already officially recognized, or adopt such a name as would be liable to be misleading or confusing with any other existing parties.

  • AGO 66 (1917) Organization of a new party includes the necessity of registration of voters as members of such a new party, if they wish to participate in the primary election.

  • AGO 146 (1922) Political party failing to poll the required number of votes at a general election loses its status as a recognized party.
